About my Transition

Tourism to Online

My artistic career was intricately tied to the cruise ship industry for 14 years. The rope snapped in 2020; and I began to sink like the unforeseeable, unthinkable Titanic disaster.

I found myself floundering in a sea of uncertainty as the coronavirus closed the dockside doors to international, national and local visitors. The cruise ship season was delayed, then cancelled in 2020 and 2021.

What to do? Search for a lifeboat? Wait for a lifeboat? I decided to pick up the tools, build a website lifeboat; and sail away into e-commerce cyberspace.

Transforming my magnetic jewellery and presentations into a digital presence was a multi layered challenge: Learning to skillfully use the builder software. Developing visual and text content for my website; and integrating an intuitive e-commerce store. Seamlessly combining creative ideas with technology when building my website and store. Drawing and digitizing my logo. Virtually presenting to viewers Cape Breton Island's natural beauty and enduring culture.

Configuring the nuts and bolts of my store was daunting: Structuring the catalog with pictures and descriptions. Setting up secure payment methods. Untangling the mystery of measuring tapes, postal scales and shipping labels. Figuring out the logistics of packaging my jewellery with postal mailers. Tasks usually aided by a large bottle of Tylenol and meditation.

My transitional journey during the Covid pandemic lasted over a year. I stretched my cerebral and creative muscles into gymnastic contortions shifting from my familiar world of direct selling to an online store. The road was often unpredictable and mostly uphill. I endured. I persevered. I laughed [at times hysterically]. I cried. I grew stronger and wiser in the process.

So here I am. And so are you

I stood proud as a Canadian artisan and ambassador interacting with cruise ship passengers. Now I sit proud behind my computer and imagine you discovering my website. I hope your navigation through my unique jewellery galleries is a memorable experience as you virtually absorb the scenic beauty and maritime culture that inspires my life and my work.
I am walking the Louisbourg Lighthouse Trail - a short drive from home.

Thank you website viewers and store shoppers for your interest and support during my pandemic transition and two year interlude.

I am successfully [and joyfully] flying in cyberspace and will continue to manage my store from my home-based seaside studio.

I have found my new comfort zone: creating magnetic jewellery, designing my website and maintaining an ecommerce store.

Working in slippers, taking coffee breaks by the sea and enjoying my co-workers [nature and wildlife] is also impossible to give up!

Present: Online Store and Website

Tides and Timing

I do an intricate dance with Nature when choreographing photos and videos with an everchanging coastal shoreline!

There are two low and high tides every 24 hours due to the earth's rotation. Tides are caused by the gravitational forces exerted on the earth by the moon, and to a lesser degree, by the sun. Tides build to a maximum high and fall to a minimum low twice a month because of the interaction of the sun with the moon.

Daily Tides   Spring and Neap Tides

There is a pleasure in the pathless woods,
There is a rapture on the lonely shore,
There is society, where none intrudes,
By the deep sea, and music in its roar:
I love not Man the less, but Nature more,
From these our interviews, in which I steal
From all I may be, or have been before,
To mingle with the Universe, and feel
What I can ne'er express, yet cannot all conceal.
